 BOATINGIf you operate a boat and use fuel you pay a road tax on that fuel. However, you don't use the highway system. Recreational boaters qualify for a motor fuel refund on tax paid on fuel used in off-highway situations. The form necessary to file a refund claim is: form GAS-1201. This can be obtained at the State of North Carolina website www.dor.state.nc.us. There is also a phone number available for questions and clarifications, (919)733-3409. The process is fairly simple. The hard part is keeping your receipts. You'll need items such as amount of fuel purchased, where purchased, type of vessel in which the fuel was used. Filing is required by April 15th each year. Here is an example: if you consure 950 gallons of fuel in a year, using the formula for calculation;provided by the state, you would receive a rebate of $166.16. Not a lot of money, but that could buy a new lamp for your house. |
